That matters for diagnosis because a Modular's mechanical noises, its valvetrain complaints and its misfire patterns do not read like a pushrod V8's, and chasing the wrong architecture wastes a day.

Fuel delivery is port injection. Each injector sits in the lower intake with its tip aimed at the back of the intake valve, held between the fuel rail and the manifold by a pair of O-rings. Early Modulars ran a return-style fuel system with a rail-mounted regulator; later ones moved to an electronic returnless arrangement where pressure is controlled at the tank end. Symptoms that genuinely point at a worn injector

A worn injector shows up in one of three ways: it flows less than it should, it flows more than it should, or it leaks when it should be closed. Each has a signature.

A cylinder-specific misfire that follows the injector. A single-cylinder misfire code that stays on the same cylinder through a coil swap and a plug swap is the classic case. Swap the suspect injector with a neighbour, clear codes, and drive it. If the misfire moves with the injector, you have your answer. If it stays put, you are looking at a valve, a head gasket, a compression problem or wiring.

Fuel trims that will not come back to centre. Both banks running well positive suggests a system-wide problem — unmetered air, low fuel pressure, a tired pump. Cleaning is worth trying when the injectors flow reasonably close to each other and the complaint is mild — a slight lean trim, a small stumble.
