8. Install the new pump. Fit the new gasket or O-ring dry unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically call for sealant, and use only the sealant they specify if they do. RTV squeezed into a joint designed for a dry gasket ends up as debris in the radiator. The mistakes that turn this into a two-time job
Reusing the old belt or ignoring the tensioner. You have already done the labour to expose them. A worn tensioner will chirp, glaze the new belt and eventually throw it, and you will be back at the front of the engine for no new reason.
Scrubbing the sealing surface with an abrasive wheel. It is fast, it looks clean, and it ruins the flatness of an aluminium face. Slow scraping beats fast grinding every time.
