What it does

The steering gear box turns the steering wheel's rotation into the swing of the pitman arm, with hydraulic assist from the power steering pump. On a solid-axle truck a worn box is where steering play, highway wander and a vague on-centre feel come from, and bigger tires make every one of them worse. A new box restores tight, predictable steering.
